PLYBEAM We have adapted our manufacturing process to allow us to produce alminated structural beams. Because we make these up from very thin layers of plywood we are able to form fairly tight radii , we end up with a beam that is the exact shape of the mould and it has next to no internal stresses. This means that a PLYBEAM is just about as stable an object as it is possible to make from wood. Although we haven't made any yet there is almost no restriction on the size of beams and lengths upwards of 10m present no special problems. Our manufacturing process also allows us to easily produce large curved panels and can incorporate dissimilar end profiles or radii if required. This means that we can make panels that go together to form a conical section or panels that go from having a radius at one end to being flat at the other. The tooling cost for this type of work is minimal and is usually measured in the low hundreds rather than thousands of pounds. This opens up a whole new world of possibilities for architects and designers. |
